AUSTRALIAN LABRADOODLE PROTECTION SOCIETY
MISSION STATEMENT
Sept. 9, 2006
In
the space of just two decades, the Australian Labradoodle has won its place in
the hearts of dog lovers around the world.
Loyal
companion, energetic playmate, and with the steady temperament of a true service
dog, the dog developed by Tegan Park and Rutland Manor has earned its status as
an actual breed by those who know it. The breed was begun in 1988 as an
experiment by the Royal Guide Dog Association in Melbourne to create a
non-shedding guide dog by crossing a lab and a poodle. Working to perfect this
since 1989, Angela Cunningham of Tegan Park and her mother, Beverley Manners, of
Rutland Manor, have carefully selected for the best characteristics in coat and
temperament, and have set high standards for health, created a breed standard,
and infused a half-dozen other breeds to create these most wonderful dogs.
The Australian
Labradoodle Protection Society represents a collection of dog breeders and pet
owners who are united in our fascination with the Tegan Park/ Rutland Manor
dogs. In the absence of kennel club recognition either in Australia or in the
United States, we are committed to educate potential pet owners and new breeders
about the dogs—and to underscore the
purity of the Australian lines. Infusions with poodles, lab-poodle crosses and
back-crosses—as many breeders around the world are now doing—dilute the breed we
love, and threaten to consign it forever to the murky world of hybrids.
We’re committed to
raising the bar for what pet owners should expect from the breed we love. If
you’re interested in helping in the various aspects of our mission, please
contact us!
